The Nightclub Singer

A 3D collage made with paper and fabric shows a woman with a white face and arms and red flowers for hair wearing a dress made of red, yellow, purple, and orange strips of fabric. She is holding a flower as if it is a microphone and singing into it. She is framed by two white pillars and behind her is a red curtain. The walls of the night club she is performing in are decorated with multicolored words, stars, swirls, and flowers with a funky design. There is a red orb hanging from the ceiling like a disco ball and neon lines of light on the wall above the red curtain.

How To Do It

  • Together, use your imaginations to create an original story based on this picture.
  • Write down your ideas in response to the questions below.
  • Give the story a title and read aloud with emotions the story you just created.
  • The last question asks you to connect the picture to your own stories.

  1. What is going on in this picture?
  2. Describe the setting. Where do you think this is? What’s behind the red curtains?
  3. What sounds and smells can be found there?
  4. What shall we call the night club? And what name shall we give the singer?
  5. What song do you think she is singing? Describe her back-up band.
  6. How does the audience respond to her singing?
  7. What do you think happens after she is done working that night?
  8. Share stories about your own night life.
